Personal History His mother was discovered to be pregnant in her 5th year at Salem Academy, and though she had passed their continuation tests (similar to the OWLs) she dropped out of school. No one knew who the father was beyond the fact that he was a wizard at the school.

When she dropped out, her father disowned her, throwing her out of the house. She traveled about the county with her infant son, eventually settling in the San Francisco Valley and setting up a crystal and palm reading shop there. Her skill in divination was such that she was able to make quite a good living for herself and her son, though her use of recreational drugs has begun hampering her abilities over the years.

Barny himself was raised in a sort of neo-pagan hippy society, and his choice of clothes reflects this to this day. While he himself did not partake of recreational drugs, his clothing choices and the past of his mother had led several people, students and staff alike at Salem Academy to believe he was.

In his second year there, his freestyle running got him scouted out for one of the quidditch teams there, and surprisingly to some, he was actually pretty good at it. He joined the team and began tinkering with broomcrafting in his spare time. During his fourth year, he actually used one of the brooms he had created while playing on the quidditch team.

During his third and fourth year, he "Lettered" in quidditch, an american custom where a few of the best players from each team were chosen by the school to receive this honor.

After his 4th year, he summered with his grandfather, with whom he had been corresponding by mail regularly since his second year. His mother hadn't minded, since she had gotten involved with a British wizard since around the mid-terms. It was a much different environment than he was used to, he was made to wear dress clothes most of the time, more fancy than the austere school uniforms from Salem Academy, but overall, his grandfather seemed to be a nice man. He planned for "Barnabus" (He refused to call his grandson Barny) to take over his position in the American equivalent of Britain's Ministry of Magic. Barny was too nice to contradict him, but didn't think that was going to be the life for him. Barny was almost 2 months into his 5th year when he was summoned to the Headmaster's office with all his belongings, being told that his mother had arranged for his transfer to Hogwarts.
