Mission: Halloween and Hogsmead
Location: Common Room

Ben stood in the room looking around. He was trying to get everyone together so that they could have a house meeting. He wanted to talk to the house about the food fight and to make some plans so that they could win the house cup.

Cassandra stepped through the portrait hole having missed the entire thing and had no clue of what she missed while she had been in the hospital wing.

Jennifer spent several hours after class studying in her room. She'd been so engrossed in her reading she missed dinner. Now she was hungry and hoped to beg some leftovers off the house elves.

She walked into the common room and saw Benjamin gathering everyone's attention. Curious, she stopped in the back by the wall and listened.

Barny noticed the gathering, the class day was over and he was once more in bright, colorful clothes. He found a seat, hoping he wasn't interrupting.

Luther walked up to the boy, smiling. He wasn't sure how to start, but he felt he had to get to know him. The weird boy with the funny clothes and hair was his teammate after all. "Uhh... Hi" The young second year smiled as he extended his hand to him. "Luther Cross. Second year and team Seeker. Your our Chaser, right? The one from the states?"

"That'd be me, I'm Barny." He smiled as he took the proffered hand and shook. "I'm just glad you had an open slot for me. I'd have been bored to tears otherwise. Now if only I was doing so well in my classes, Herbology isn't something I took back in the states, I took Metallurgy and Stones instead, and I swear that history teacher is more effective than a sonambulus spell!"

"Alright everyone" Ben started out. "Things are starting to really happen around here, especially now that the Quiditch season is about to begin. I for one want to see us when in it and to win the house cup at the end of the year. We need to come together and work as one big team so that we can accomplish something great this year. "Does anyone have any ideas on stuff we should do to help each other and the house?" He asked looking around at everyone here.

Jennifer wasn't much of a Quidditch player. She generally just watched the games and cheered for Gryffindor. This year, however, with Reg on the Slytherin team, she chose to stay neutral.

Ben looked at Jennifer who seemed to not really be paying attention. "This is an all around effort here. I would love the opinion of another of our Prefects, Jennifer, do you have anything to add?"

"As I don't play Quidditch, I don't have much to add, Ben," she said. "Sorry."

"I'm just the equipment manager what I say doesn't matter," Cassandra said under her breath.

Stifling a sigh at Jennifer, he was about to continue when Cassandra mumbled something which his head whipped around to her. "Cassandra, you are a first year, you may not be a playing member of the team, but as an associate of it, you are a role model" he told her, trying to stifle any kind of serious rebuke.

"This isn't just about Quidditch, this is how about the over all school year, open your minds people and lets be the best house" Ben added, trying and hoping the other house members would have the same level of pride he felt for Gryffindor.

"It's a little hard to accomplish anything when you are worried about protecting yourself from attacks between classes. I never even cast a spell and got points taken away from Gryffindor." Cassandra said.

"That's a very good point." He said. He looked around the room again. "I think that this is something that we could work on together. Would anyone be willing to work with me to make sure that first years are protected from being bullied?" Ben asked the room. "I doubt those cowardly Slytherins will mess with anyone if one of us are around with them watching there backs.

"Some of us already do, Ben," Jen said quietly. "And if we want to win the house cup, we need to focus not only on Quidditch but on our schoolwork."

"I asked the DADA professor for extra lessons trying to help protect myself and I'm willing to help others in my classes if they need it." Cassandra said.

"That's a good step Cassandra. Jennifer, that is the path I mean for us to go. We all have areas of interest, strengths and weaknesses. That is why I want to do a little planning to make sure we all succeed. So, who all will help mentor the students that need help?"

Barny spoke up, "I'll help with what I can. Though I could use some help myself with Herbology. I took Metallurgy and Magical Stones instead when I was in America, any I have to admit I'm a little lost. Though if anyone wants to learn the Metallurgy and Magical Stones, I'd be happy to reciprocate."

"I can help with charms, potions and transfiguration." Jen said. "I also suggest that those who are having trouble with some of the Slytherin stay in groups. They're less likely to be targeted."

"They are always in a group too so that doesn't always work," Cassandra said, "Especially when they know more spells than the person they are attacking."

Barny nodded, "There is that, alone bullies are usually pretty worthless, but when they act like hyenas, they can be dangerous. I hate to say this, but sometimes it's better to take it than to fight back, if there are teachers about. The teachers would then have to deduct points from them, but not from you. Still, it's not pleasant to be itching or vomiting up slugs. I think it would be best to make sure the youngers know the defensive spells, finite at least. Protego would be better, but it's likely they wouldn't be able to hold it long enough to make to reflect the spell back or even reduce it much until they get some experience."

"So, we're back where we started from," Jen said.

Ben disagreed with Jen, "We have identified some areas, I would say we have made some progress. First, we will say spells and school work. Jen, you volunteered for charms, potions and transfiguration. Barny is willing to help where he can, we will figure out where in a moment, and perhaps if he is willing and some wish to exceed expectations, he can teach some of what he learned in America. I will help with Defensive spells. Is anyone good at Herbology? If anyone else would like to help with other areas, or needs help in other areas, let us know." He took a moment to think.

As far the problems with the first years being bullied, groups may not be full proof, but they do help. Perhaps some of us later students, especially those of us that are prefects, could find time to escort first years some of the time?" He looked at the older students and the prefects to judge there reactions. "If others get in the habit of seeing the first years protected, perhaps they will start to leave them alone."

Jen nodded in agreement.

Barny nodded, "I'll do what I can to help out." He worried a little about it after the incident with Reg, but if he stuck with protego and didn't let it get out of hand, or worse- reversed, it should be ok.

"I'm a great flier. Kinda... Sorta... Maybe... I guess." Luther said as he looked around and didn't sound so sure on himself. The one problem with Luther was he always questioned his own confidence. He never wanted to sound so sure of himself because he always expected to fail, but he never backed down from trying. "I can help people with flying and umm... Quidditch. I guess thats not much help now that I think about it." He put his head down and sighed.

"Actually, that can be a big help," Jennifer assured him. "We need to have a solid team this year if we're going to win, so you can be a big help there."

They talked for several minutes about Quidditch tactics, then the meeting broke up.
