Kissing Cousins, part 1

Posted on Friday, 25th of November, 2011 @ 3:09pm by Seventh Year Prefect (G) Jennifer Collins & Seventh Year Prefect (S) Reginald Price & Seventh Year (G) Barnabus Collins

Mission: Halloween and Hogsmead

Jennifer was done with classes for the day. Even though it was November, the afternoons were still mild enough for her to want to be outside.

She lay on the grass, Tribble on her stomach as she enjoyed the feel of sunshine on her face.

Barny thought she looked just like in the photo, a little bit older, to be sure, but in a good way. Too bad she was family. His grandfather has said to make sure that he met her, so here he was on the green, moving quietly towards her, not purposely quiet, but with the rustling of the leaves of the forest. He got to almost touching distance before he sat on his heels.

"Nice day for laying out like that. Though you seem to be growing some kind of something on your stomach." Said Barny

Jennifer chuckled. "It's a pygmy puff." She opened her eyes and looked at the person behind the voice. "You're new here, aren't you?"

"Yeah, I was told to look for you, a cute little thing." He purposely left it unclear whether he meant the tiny beastie or Jen herself for a second before he rummaged in his bag and passed her a folded piece of paper. "Good to meet you Cuz... Well, 5th cousin, once removed, with a side of toast and a rasher of bacon or some such. Does it bite?" As she took the piece of paper he dropped his hand down for it to sniff while keeping eye contact.

"No, she doesn't bite. Even her nibbles are soft." She sat up and looked at the paper. "Cousin? I didn't know I had any cousins in the States." She read the paper carefully and grinned. "Wow. I have a Yankee cousin. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too." He gently scratched the little thing behind where it's ears would be? and was rewarded with a cooing purring noise. "My grandfather researched it all up for me. I think he takes the house business way too serious. He had the idea that we should be a couple. Not that you aren't pretty or anything, but we're only just meeting today."

Jennifer couldn't tell him she already had a boyfriend, because it was a secret. "Well, I wouldn't go that far, but it's nice to meet you. I didn't know I had any wizarding family."

"Yep, from a ways back. Some kind of silly fight or other split the two halves. I swear, My grandfather seems to take full blood vs half blood vs muggle blood way too serious. A wiz is a wiz is a wiz to me."

Barny waited a little, "But don't worry about what my grandfather wants, I know that you and Evan are tight, and it wouldn't be right of me to try to steal you away from a team mate of mine."

She and Evan were tight? Until that moment, Jen had no idea that there were rumors about her and Evan. Then again, it would be a lot better than rumors about her and Reg. At least for now. "Evan and I are just friends," she said. "I'm not looking for a boyfriend. I have three years of school to focus on right now." She shrugged off the comment and moved on. "Why did you come to Hogwarts?"

Reginald was sitting in the Prefect Bathroom. He sat on the window sill with a parchment and paintbrush. Scattered in front of him were a bunch of paints. He brought the brush to the parchment and continued his drawing of Jennifer. Reginald wanted to surprise her with a beautiful painting of her smiling in a scenery of grass. It was going to be his gift to her for accepting his apology. He had her dancing in the wind as leaves blew by, holding Tribble and in a beautiful dress. He had everything worked out and all he needed was to add the color. He had worked on moving paintings before, but he had already gone through several rough drafts and none of them seemed to look as right as this one.

As he brought another brush to the parchment he looked out and saw Barny and Jennifer talking. He raised a brow as the ever vigilant and talkative Rasputin hung off his shoulder, still looking at the painting. "What? Why did you ssstop? Come on. Don't you want to get thisss finissshed?" The snake looked at him and then out the window. "Hey it'sss Jennifer and the Fuzzball. Who isss that with her?"

Reginald put down the brush and walked over to the sink and began to wash his hands. Rasputin looked over to the painting and then was swung back forward as Reginald moved with such determination. "Uhh... Reg? Where are we going?" Reginald was silent, focusing on washing his hands and getting the paint off, which was simple since it was magic paint it didn't stick and stain as much as Muggle paint. "You know, assss the unwilling party here who can't do much but follow becaussse, I don't know, I had no legsss! You wanna let me in on thisss crazy adventure you have planned today or am I jussst going with the flow?" Reginald was still silent as he waved his wand and the paints went into a box and it closed. He tucked the box into his robe and rolled up the parchment. He tucked it into his robe also and then made his way out the door. "I'm assssuming thatsss a No. Maybe next time you ssshould jussst sssay Ssshut up and deal Rasss, it will be a lot more polite."

"Oh, my mom decided to marry some wizard from over here. I don't know all the details, I was supposed to meet him, but... Instead I came straight out here. She'd apparently been here for a week or so. I left them a message, but haven't gotten an owl from them yet." He looked up in the sky, "My mom's a bit of an airhead at times, and doesn't always remember to write. But the Academy got wind of it and I was sent over here. Didn't matter how my grades were or that I was really helping the quidditch team. They assume that because I dress colorfully and with my mom's past... I'm 100% though. Above the influence and all that. I've seen what that stuff did to my mom, why in the heck would I ever want to partake?"

Reginald made his way out of the castle. He had managed to run out from the Prefects Bathroom and through the castle without drawing any attention to himself. He burst through the doors and began to slow down. Rasputin was bouncing up and down the entire way. "It'sss a good thing I can't throw up because if I could, I would." Rasputin said as Reginald started to approach a good vantage point to see Barny and Jennifer. "Really, Reg? Really? You have sssunk ssso low assss to ssspy on your own girlfriend? Trussst isssuesss much?"

"I am not spying on her." Reginald replied as he leaned in a bit closer and slowly moved, still keeping out of sight.

"Ssso what do you call thisss?" The snake turned his head and faced the two in the distance.

"Observing" Reginald answered as turned and faced the snake.

"What'sss the difference?"

"Spying means I plan on doing something bad and mischievous" Reginald looked back at the two and then moved in a little closer.

"And your not planning on doing sssomething along thossse liness?

"Not... exactly." He said slowly and softly as he raised a brow to the snake as he looked at him. "Hey. Shut up, Rasputin. It's scary how much you know me so well."
