"No. I've nothing to fear from the snake. Even my pygmy puff was more disturbed by the bird than the snake." She gave an apologetic smile to Barny. "She's never met your bird before and wasn't sure what to make of it. It is a predator, after all."

[NEW]

Barney spoke up, "Then maybe the snake was seeking Jen for his own sake, but it doesn't explain him hiding behind the tree watching us. Whether Jen feels she's being stalked or not, him hiding behind a tree like that is certainly suspicious, and regardless of what he claims, I maintain that when I accused him, he came up to me and grabbed me by the throat, threatened with his wand, and that I acted in self-defense with the minimum amount of force to ensure my own safety. If I'd been out to attack him, I wouldn't have stopped with just throwing him."

Maggie turned to Reg. "And your reason for being there?"

Jen wondered if she should confess what was really going on to the professor. But she wasn't sure if she should. Or if it would cause more trouble.

"Like I said, Professor. I was outside watching Rasputin slither around as he normally does. I was leaning against the try, not hiding behind it. You ugly half wit. Did you ever realize that maybe my snake wasn't hiding, it was just there? After all it is a snake and does move very close to the ground. Its a Snake! Its what he does!" Reginald yelled slightly as he put his hand over his face and sighed. "Apparently, where you from, snakes have grown legs and just simply trot around." He said as he made a comedic gesture with his hands and sighed. "Professor, you should really ask the Headmaster to check a students mental health if he is accepting students from other places. Perhaps it would cause a little less mental stress on the rest of the faculty so you wouldn't have to worry about whether its all in their head." He looked over to Barny as he raised his voice slightly and then looked to Jennifer. "By the way. Could you find it in your Muggle Blooded heart to return my pet? I can only imagine what you and your Gryffindors are doing to torment him."

"That will be QUITE enough, Mr. Price. You made you point -- however your need to add fuel to the fire is only making things look worse for you."

"Rasputin is in my room. He's perfectly safe. I'll consider giving him back, but you need to ask nicely first," she taunted. "Maybe add a box of chocolates for my effort to save your snake."

Maggie found the answer to be both odd and telling. There was definitely more going on that appeared. She would have to have a talk with her prefect. Alone.

Barny's head wrapped around the word chocolates... Valentines... His Eyes widened a little, no... maybe? He began putting together the clues, The king that didn't want the throne, wanted something else entirely, the way she could handle Reg's snake, that she took both their wands out. He looked at both of them. Wondering if that could be the case.

"Look, Miss MacAulay, I didn't want either Tribble or Rasputin to be scared of Barny's bird. So I took them with me. I disarmed both boys so they wouldn't fight over whether the bird was threatening the snake or the snake was threatening Tribble. I told them both to behave and left. I have no idea what happened after that. I think both of them need to kiss and make up, if you ask me." She was still unhappy with both of them for their stupid posturing and blustering.

The side of MacAulay's mouth quirked up in a half smile. "Somehow I don' think kiss and make up is going to work here. At least, not for these two."

Barny looked at Jen, then hard at Reg. "If he's willing to drop it completely, then I would be as well. We both gave as good as we got, and neither of us is hurt, no harm no foul." Barny watched Reg's face for his reaction.

Jen raised an eyebrow and looked at Reg. The ball was in his court now.

What a tempting offer. Reginald took a moment to think as he stared back at Barny, his cold look masking his feelings. He allowed himself to smile slightly as he thought about allowing his punishment to stand. What kind of Slytherin would I be portraying if I just let him walk away for putting his hands on me. Reginald put his hands behind his back and then sighed as he looked over to Professor MacAulay. "I demand he receive some kind of punishment and his house loses points, no less than 25 points. He still put his hands on a Prefect and still had the nerve to come up here and accuse me of things that I did not do."

"Ten points and detention," Maggie countered. "He's new to the school and still needs to learn the rules."

Barny sighed, part of him wanted to drop this just so it would be over, but his sense of justice wouldn't allow it. "Then I'm afraid I can't drop my complaint, not just because you wouldn't drop yours, but because you continue to refuse to admit that you laid hands on me at all, and first at that. I maintain that I acted solely in self-defense. I accept your punishment, but ask that Mr. Price receive the same."

"Mr. Price will receive detention as well, but he has a point. You should not have hit him."

"Actually, it was more of a grab and throw, using his pushing me to make it happen, but point well taken."

"I'm glad we understand each other," Professor MacAulay said. "Now, if there's nothing further, you can all go -- provided you don't fight again. Miss Collins, be careful." She wasn't talking about the fight -- or almost fight. The girl was playing with fire and the professor hoped she wouldn't get burned.

Barny rose, "Thank you, Professor." He turned to wait his turn to leave. He decided if the two were... involved... He would butt out for the most part. So long as Jen wasn't hurt, at least.

Jen looked at both Barny and Reginald. "Like I said before, behave." She nodded to the professor and left.

Reginald stood there and watched Jennifer leave. He was quiet for a second. Not because he got detention, he got detention plenty of times and he had no problem with serving it for something he did. What he was thinking about is whether he could convince her that he was sorry for spying on her. He put on his Slytherin face and tugged at his robes as he looked to the Professor. "If there isn't anything else, Professor. I'll take my leave of you." He said as he turned and walked to the door, in the hopes of catching Jennifer in time.
