Mission: Yule!
Location: Great Hall and outside Hogwarts

Reginald groaned slightly at her squeeze. He felt the urge to yell but only groaned softly. She had a strong grip for a girl of her size. He looked at her and then noticed her head gesture to another direction. He could only hope that this had to be really important. Reg rubbed his arm a bit and looked. As he saw Evan walk into the Great Ball, he tried his best not to show his panic. He smiled as he looked back to Jen and then to the others and pulled her in the direction of the door, trying to walk to them, without drawing any attention.

[Continued]

Barny took Fiona's arm and tried his best to walk guard to keep Pandora off of Reg's back, "Like I said, lets get him to the infirmary before he yutzes on someone, though if she keeps getting in his face it would be fun to see her catch the multicolored result."

A loud gong sounded. "Midnight! Before we unmask, I'd like to announce the King and Queen of the Yule Ball." There was a pause. "Evan Grant and Jennifer Collins! Please take the center of the floor for your royal crowning."

A light appeared over Jen and Evan. Yeah. Things were now worse.

Barny groaned, this wasn't going well at all. He didn't like Reg, not at all, but if he was the one Jen loved then he would do it for her happiness.

The sneer on Pandora's face was undeniable, now she would have her suspicions confirmed or proven wrong one way or the other. If she was right she would find some way to make him pay.

Evan tried to sink back into the shadows how ever Nathan was whooping it up, as he found the whole situation hilarious.

"And," the voice continued almost humorously, "as you don't seem to be together right now, bring your dates with you."

Could things GET much worse? Yes. Yes, they could. And they were about to. Jen wanted to run in the opposite direction. One look around told her that would be impossible. EVERYONE was looking at the four of them.

Nathan frog-marched a red faced Evan to the podium. where he stood trying to learn to be invisible.

Barny put his arm around Fiona, "Nothing that we can do for them now. This isn't going to be pretty."

Fiona hid her face against Barny's shoulder. "I'm afraid not."

There was nothing for it. Jen gave Reg a worried look and slowly followed Nathan and Evan.

Reginald followed with Jen and then looked around. There was a bunch of surprised looks. Most people assumed that he was Evan, as planned, but aside from Pandora's paranoid brain working overtime it worked pretty well. Right now, Reg was thinking that he should have gave Evan MORE of those candies to make him sick.

The four stopped in the middle of the floor. Every eye was on them. "Presenting the King and Queen of the Yule Ball. And their escorts. If the four of you will kindly unmask, Evan and Jen can take their Royal Waltz."

A hush fell across the audience as everyone waited to see who the other "Evan" was.

Pandora was watching now in anticipation. Even more glad that the real Evan had managed to show up so that there was no way this person could pretend to be him any more.

Reginald looked around at all the eyes watching him. It was like his own personnel nightmare. He and Jennifer were in the Prefect Bathroom and then they kiss. Nothing else was needed to be said, but when they broke they kiss he would notice they were kissing in the Great Hall surrounded by students and faculty looking at them. It was like that nightmare all over again. Everyone seeing the truth behind all his lies. Reginald knew it would have to come to an end, but if only he could have it go on just a little longer. With a deep breath, he looked at Jennifer and shrugged. This is it, Reg. No more hiding and tricks. He thought to himself as he put his hand on the mask and hesitated. I'd rather be in Azkaban right now.

To give Reg another moment or two, Jen pulled off her mask and let her hair fall loose. If she hoped to take some pressure off Reg she failed. Everyone was still staring at him, wondering who the fake Evan was.

Reg put his head down and took in one more deep breath. He held his hand out and took a hold of Jennifer's hand. "Hell with it." He said speaking softly and with his other hand, he gripped onto his mask and then pulled it off. The spell that changed his hair was removed as he took a breath outward. He cleared his throat and brought his head back up to reveal who he really was. The only thing that set him apart from the normal Reg was the contacts he still had in his eyes.

Jennifer squeezed his hand and smiled proudly. However bad things would get, she was going to stand firmly beside Reg. She had to admit that, deep down, she was relieved to finally have their relationship out in the open.

"I knew it." Pandora fumed. She knew exactly how she was going to pay him back too. It would mean him getting cut off just like her sister but right now she didn't care. He could have at least told her in private instead of revealing it like this. Humiliating her in front of the entire school. She stormed out of the great hall and headed straight to the owlery. His father would know about this soon enough and he would punish Reg far beyond anything that she would come up with herself.

Edward eyed the young Slytherin after the reveal. "Quite the spectacle," he muttered to Oscar, "That wasn't pretty at all. I have to feel for the girl, finding her boyfriend with someone else." He was tempted to follow the young miss, but as the dance was winding down, more couples were likely to get "Enthused" by circumstances, so he couldn't leave the Great Hall right now.

For several moments there was silence. Then, at the instructions of one of the teachers, the band began to play. "The king and queen will now start the waltz."

After the first few strains, Nathan and Reg claimed their respective partners and continued dancing. It was a relief to Jen to be able to dance with Reg without a disguise and without being alone. Tomorrow she would have to face the purebloods. Tomorrow Reg would have to face Peter. But for now they could enjoy being a regular couple.

Barny sighed and after others started to join into the dance, "Sorry about all that, she's my cousin and I want her to be happy. Just like I want to make you happy too."

"Jen's my friend," was all Fiona could say.

Barny looked at her, "I want to be your friend too. You're fun to be around." He didn't mention how pretty he found her, nor how good she smelled, nor how good it felt to hold her, even if only while dancing, or how his heart seemed to want to leap out of his chest when she was around. "I've never known anyone else that I wanted to be around like I want to be around you."

Fiona wasn't sure how to answer that, so she smiled and hid her face against hs shoudler again.

The dance ended and the lights came up, signaling the end of the ball. The students began to exit the Great Hall.

Reg and Jen held back, wanting to let the crush clear before they made their way back to their respective dorms. Several students looked at them with interest. One or two with contempt.

Peter stopped and glared at both of them. "A mudblood, Price? And here I thought you were going to amount to something." He leaned closer and whispered. "Watch your back. I won't let you get away with this. It sets a bad precedent." He took Alena's arm and led her out of the hall.

Jen wrapped her arms around Reg, partly to show her support but mostly to keep him from retaliating. Not here in front of the teachers. "Come on, love. How 'bout a walk in the moonlight before we go to bed?"

With a little encouragement she led him outside where they could get some fresh air -- and avoid more confrontations.
