Mission: POWER OUTAGE! ; Or What to Do When Your Wand Stops Working?
Location: Great Hall
Timeline: Halloween

Penelope sat at the High table sipping her tea and eating her roast. Her role as headmistress was still rather new to her, she was a good administrator however and was settling into the administrative aspects well.

Maggie, a few seats down, kept her eye on the students to ensure that nobody tried any pranks -- at least during dinner.

Jennifer felt odd as Head Girl. She still felt like just another Gryffindor student, but now she had responsibilities over the other Prefects and had to sit at the head table with the professors. That made her feel totally out of place. All she wanted was to spend Halloween with Reg, preferably somewhere quiet.

Reg stood in the doorway of the Great Hall and just looked around. He was Head Boy. He was Head Boy. He still couldn't believe it. It was still a title he didn't think he earned, but he somehow got it and he was going to accept it. Reg had no reason to stop being who he was, or start being someone he wasn't so he was going to make due and prove he wasn't the same black heart he pretended to be a long time ago. As his eyes met with Jen he smiled and started to make his way towards her.

Jen smiled back, relieved to see Reg. At least now she wouldn't feel quite so out of place.

Kairi entered the hall, looking over to Gryffindor for a moment spotting her friend Maxwell, her heart jumped for a moment and she just had to stop. *It's never done that before.* She thought to herself, very conscious and hiding herself under her robes. Her Aunt had said it was 'nothing to worry about, perfectly natural'; it didn't exactly feel natural to Kairi, it felt like a big deal. What would Maxwell think of her? As soon as the Second year boys saw her out of her robes the secret would be out! She settled in at the Hufflepuff table, giving Maxwell a small wave, hoping he would notice. The others seemed to huddle around her for a moment, checking to see that she was okay. It was going to be a long dinner and even longer year.

Fiona ate quietly. Barny was busy doing something or other and wasn't sure if he'd make it to the feast or not. It was a good thing as Fiona wanted to slip away right after dinner and do some studying.

Maxwell tried to arrive early, he had meant to get the Robes ironed out more but then his hair had given him the usual trouble and Tripod acted funny so he had forgotten to get there in time. Why had his watch, like he should remember that it is not magic so it will not work well. He had just gotten used to wearing it at home, it was not cheap but might as well be for all it meant... Kairi gave him a wave as he entered from her table, a cute girl actually gave him time of day. He waved back just before stumbling over a chair leg of someone who had the thing too far out.

"So much for the Smooth second year ..." He sas he quickly took a chair to cut the display of his bungling.

Kairi saw the slip and recovery, stifling a giggle and blushing a touch. One of her dorm mates looked at him and then back to her, almost as if she was trying to pair the two off. "Kairi, do you like him?"

"He's a friend, just drop it." she replied trying to hide the blush as much as her ever shrinking robes.

Alessandra made her way into the Great Hall, avoiding eye contact with anybody, and locating an isolated seat in the corner well away from the rest of the assembled students, including her own house, Slithering. Since she had been at Hogwarts, she had not spoken to anybody other than what was required for classwork...and that was not always a given.

Virgil walked slowly into the Great Hall and stood there at the entrance. He took the mini blood flavored lolipop out of his mouth and looked around with a slight scoff. If only he could fade away so that no one would see him. He would have so much fun, but at least he wouldn't have to worry about anyone figuring it out. He was running out of mini-pops and needed to stock up on some more. Only a few remained and once they were gone, things would get complicated.

He paused slightly as he slipped the mini-pop back into his mouth continued to walk in. He didn't want to sit with Slytherin. He wasn't going to think about going near Hufflepuff or Gryffindor and Ravenclaw would only drive him to insane. Virgil debated on walking out, but he would only be dragged back in. Finally, he shook his head and walked along the wall with his head down. Hoping he would just blend into the shadows and no one would bother him.

Keesha walked into the room and grinned at all the decorations. She was now a third year and couldn't believe she'd survived this far. What really surprised her was that she was actually beginning to get the hang of magic. Well, mostly. She still had an occasional epic fail -- especially in potions, which seemed to be her weakest subject. She found a seat with the Gryffindors and eagerly helped herself to the feast.

Allie was sitting with a couple of first years, helping them learn the proper wrist movements for Wingardium Leviosa. "Good. Swish, and then a flick." She demonstrated with her own fork, then gestured to the boy to try. He kept swinging his arms around unnecessarily, causing a lot of damage to the jellies. "No, not quite so big. Try to keep your elbow in your side, and then move your wrist in a circle. Like so."

"Except, don't try it here or the Headmistress will give you detention," Keesha cautioned.
