Mission: Another School Year, Another ...
Location: Hogwarts
Timeline: All Hallow's Eve

It was the day before All Hallow's Even and it was the last day of classes before the festivities. As Head Girl, Jennifer had been busy with her own studies and and with helping the Prefects, running errands for the Professors and keeping students out of trouble. She hadn't had time to spend with Reg -- well, not alone, anyway. So she made special plans for their last All Hallow's at Hogwarts. As it was a Hogsmede weekend as well, she wanted to run into town and get a few things.

Barney was dressed normally... Normally for a young wizard, not normally as in what he usually wore around Hogwarts. He had asked Fiona to accompany him to Hogsmeade, and not to that damned tea house this time, though in truth, he wouldn't mind such interaction between them.

The summer had been hectic, and with everything that had led up to it. The tri-wizard tournament, the time he had spent over the summer amongst the Aurors, provisional that was, if he could keep his grades up, he was in. The tournament had been a large factor in the decision. His strange manner of dress, american upbringing had worked against it, but his physicality, his sometimes brash, but always honest demeanor, and the fact that he knew some magics not common to the wizards of england all played in his favor. He'd met quite a few of the Aurors over the summer, though he of course wasn't allowed "in the field" as it were until he turned 17 in July. and even then, only as an observer.

He'd exchanged letters with Fiona weekly over the summer, but hadn't gotten to see her as they'd planned. Either his or her schedule had gotten in the way. He was going to Hogsmeade with Fiona... If he could pry her nose out of whatever book it was in. He went down to the Great Hall to wait for her, as they'd agreed, garnering strange looks from those who knew him, mostly because him dressing normally was... Strange.

Sitting in the Library with Jacen, Satele was focusing on her potions studies. Although she'd improved in that field, she still wasn't up to where she wanted to be and as it wouldn't be long before Jacen would be heading back to America, she was trying to get as much help from him as she could before he had to leave. "Can't you stay just a little longer?"

Jacen shook his head, "no I can't. As soon as this turm is over I have to return to Salem for my graduation exams. Besides, I was supposed to leave with the other Salem students after the tournament was over, I was lucky enough to be able to swing the whole 'exchange student' thing for this long"

Kelly was already in Hogsmeade, wandering around. Her parents had- true to their norm- sent quite a stipend for her. That's the way it was with them, money instead of love, everything she could want, but never what she needed. She was used to it by now, so she walked out of the treat shop with a varied but sparse selection. She'd lost bad weight over the past two summers and gained quite a bit of muscle, but also... some more womanly weight, not overmuch, but her hips and chest had gained her more than a little attention, though she was still figuring out how to best use that to her advantage.

She passed a shop selling brooms and then turned back. She'd been getting more and more into quidditch, but the school brooms had definitely seen better days. Yet here in front of her were brooms advertising faster, more maneuverable, and they looked sleeker than the dowdy ones being used by the school. She went in and a short while later came out with a wrapped package, obviously a broom. It wasn't the best, it wasn't a lot better than the school brooms, but it was hers. She weighed her considerably lighter pouch of coins, but was still happy with the purchase. She'd learned a glamour that could be used to disguise it as a field hockey stick,

Maybe she would see if Barney would help her make the broom a little better. She'd heard him talking with the flight instructor cum quidditch coach, and he seemed to know a lot about modding brooms... She liked Barney, despite his being Gryphindork. He had the bravery to dress and act the way he wanted, without guile. Not to mention that he was strong and quick, and... She shivered slightly, getting all tingly like she always did when thinking of him. Kelly shook her head to clear those thoughts, because they always led to thoughts of Fiona, and what she'd like to do to hurt her. Those thoughts made her tingle in nearly the same way, which confused Kelly. She liked being in control, and didn't like being confused.

Fiona lost track of time -- again. But she managed to only be a few minutes late meeting Barny. "Sorry. The head librarian showed me this amazing book on the first Wizarding families." She hugged Barny and smiled. " I'm ready to go if you are." She had actually considered moving to Hogsmede after graduation to work at the town library there, but for now she wasn't sure exactly where she wanted to be, only that she wanted to work with books. Odd, as Jennifer was the studious one and she and Reg were talking about becoming Codebreakers.

Barney smiled, glad he hadn't left when she hadn't turned up on time, "Its fine, sorta getting used to it. With you liking libraries and such, it's surprising that you haven't applied to the Department of Mysteries. I'd wager that you'd do well there."

"Those guys are just creepy," Fiona said. "I want to work in an actual library.

"It was just a thought, I mean, it looks like I'll be working as an Auror, and it would be a way that we might be able to stick together after graduation." Barney looked at her, gauging her reaction.

"I have no problem seeing you after graduation, but I've been talking to the librarian at Hogwarts and there might be a new magical library in Hogsmede. If so, she's going to recommend me for hte position of assistant librarian." The sparkle in her eyes clearly showed how excited she was at the prospect.

Barney felt a little piece of himself die inside. He kept a smile on his face. "But I likely won't be coming back to Hogwarts once the term is done." He couldn't fully keep the hurt out of his voice, "But you have to do what makes you happy. I'm sorry, but I don't much feel like Hogsmeade right now, sorry." Barney held her hand for a moment before stalking back up the walk towards Hogwarts.

Fiona watched him go. She never dreamed that they'd break up because she wanted to be a librarian. With a heavy heart she went back to Gryffindor Tower.
